    Position Summary: Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards, the Benefits Manager supports the strategy development, design, implementation, communication, maintenance and compliance of all health & welfare and retirement programs to align with the company’s Total Rewards philosophy and business objectives. Employee benefits include medical, Rx, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, flexible spending accounts and retirement plans and other such benefits and programs that the company may introduce in the future.  



    Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

    • Support the strategic development and maintenance of the total rewards strategy to ensure programs are fully aligned with the business strategy, are fiscally responsible, market competitive and support the attraction and retention of high performing talent. Identify and execute tactics to achieve the strategy.
    • Partner with the Shared Services organization to facilitate the management of benefits company-wide.
    • Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with those of other employers by analyzing other plans, surveys, and other sources of information. Plan, develop and/or participate in area and industry surveys, including annual benchmarking surveys. Analyze results of surveys and benchmarking and develop specific recommendations to management based on best-in-class and/or financial cost/benefit analysis while ensuring the provision of competitive benefits for employees.
    • Develop cost information for new plans and/or plan changes and work with management concerning cost share between employer and employee. Monitor H&W trend and determine key trend drivers to assist in development or modification of existing programs.
    • Manage vendor relationships and assist with vendor analysis, negotiations, and request for proposal (RFP) processes, including RFP design, analysis of results and recommended changes to programs and/or vendor partners.
    • Ensure strong governance and compliance with all pertinent state and Federal regulations affecting employee benefit programs, including, but not limited to, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA and PPACA.
    • Direct the annual renewal and open enrollment process, including preparation of employee communications and updates to the benefits enrollment site.
    • Prepare and execute, with legal consultation, benefits documentation, such as original and amended plan texts, benefit agreements and insurance policies. Instruct insurance carriers, trustees and other administrative agencies outside the company to effect changes in benefits program. Ensure prompt and accurate compliance.
    • Supervise preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with Federal and state agencies, such as Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies.
    • Review and analyze changes to state and Federal laws pertaining to benefits with government-sponsored programs.
    • Provide subject matter advice and expertise in support of M&A activities.  



    • Strong communicator with the ability to develop strong relationships with internal customers and vendor partners to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
    • Direct the preparation, development and distribution of employee communications regarding health, welfare and retirement benefits, including benefits training, forms and summaries, new hire orientation, Summary Plan Descriptions, Summary of Material Modifications, and updates to the website to assist employees in understanding benefits.
    • Lead the communication of benefits changes, including explanation of new vendor partnerships, new and/or modified plans and benefits policies to ensure the successful implementation and administration of programs and plan design changes within Shared Services.  
    • Perform as liaison between benefit vendor partners, Shared Services and employees to ensure adherence to plan provisions and to resolve Tier 3 escalated issues.
    • Manage the open enrollment process, including employee meetings, updates to existing communications and drafting of communications regarding new benefit programs.
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
    • Excellent organization, interpersonal and customer service skills. 
    • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.   


    • Able to identify and drive projects and initiatives to improve the efficiency and quality of benefits programs.
    • Provide guidance and assistance to employees relative to the policies, practices and procedures affecting their benefits eligibility.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with employees throughout the organization.
    • Ensure line managers and the wider HR community understand and utilize available benefit tools. 

    Qualification Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources or related field.
    • 5+ years of experience managing employee benefits.
    • Subject matter expert in health & welfare and retirement programs.
    • Ability to manage time and tasks effectively and to work both independently and in a team environment. 
    • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities. 
    • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint). 


    Desired Qualifications 

    • CEBS, CBP and/or SHRM benefit certifications.
    • Shared Services experience.
    • Project management experience in planning, leading and managing critical benefits initiatives.
    • Knowledge of Ultimate Software Self-Service Eligibility modules
