    We're looking for someone who performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in wastewater treatment pad which to sustain the plant’s production while adhering to all federal, state, and local regulations. 


    • Ability to operate and adjust controls on treatment plant equipment and machinery, such as valves, pumps and motors and also able to repair malfunctions within the wastewater treatment pad, repairs gauges, pumps, filters and other controls and equipment as necessary and able to detect and correct errors within the wastewater systems.
    • Able to locate problems and operate sewer cleaning equipment to clear stoppages.
    • Ability to grease and clean or paint plant equipment; read and interpret meters and gauges; regulate plant effluent; and perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in water works system construction and maintenance; monitor, repair leaks, disassemble and clean pumps and maintain wastewater system lift stations and replace equipment as necessary.
    • Perform general routine maintenance work such as sweeping, cleaning, sanding and painting of equipment and the ability to keep department organized and clean at all times.
    • Records daily flow of influent output flows to the local city’s treatment facilities and to ensure all waste water outputs meets the stringent pH range standards according to the plant’s operating waste water permits.
    • Ability to work in an environment that requires to wear the following personnel protective equipment; goggles, neoprene/nitrile/latex/vinyl/rubber/cotton gloves, chemical resistant clothing, steel toe shoes and other required or necessary clothing for exposure protection.
    • Assures that plant operates within required operating standards and free of problematic issues.
    • Safely able to produce, process and transfer sludge waste on a daily basis without any incidents.
    • Conducts routine daily inspections and document corrective actions as required.
    • Recognize inefficient, unusual or dangerous operating conditions.
    • Flushes and disinfects waste water lines as necessary.
    • Able to take daily water meter reading for all incoming local city water systems and document.
    • Able to operate a variety of power tools and equipment.
    • Keep labor, material and maintenance records and provide to accounting department.
    • Monitors the performance of all equipment, gauges on pumps and charts for the treatment pad.
    • Ability to chart lab test results for possible trends and analysis and maintains accurate records for test results and writes reports as required.
    • Responsible for maintaining archiving records for wastewater such as reports, lab results, daily flow recordings, inspection reports, etc)
    • Conduct pH samples to identifies concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of wastewater required in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements
    • Monitors performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment of the treatment plant.
    • Ability to keep up with sanitation schedules as required.
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and management and able to understand, follow and carry out oral and written instructions.
    • Read, write and perform mathematical calculations at the level required for successful job performance and basic understanding of computers, recording charts, and pH meters.
    • Ability to effectively interpret the policies and objectives of the position to prevent spills incidents, injuries and within state and local compliance regulations
    • Observe and enforce safety precautions and to follow rules and procedures according to OSHA’s Health and Safety in regards to general work standards 29 CFR 1910 regulations.
    • Appropriately take safety precautions and procedures for the use of chemicals and waste distribution practices.
    • With a professional attitude, able to work with outside local government agencies, contractors and to negotiate with vendors ways to reduce costs for waste water production.
    • Able to take water samples when instructed to meet California’s Clean Water Act.
    • Understand basic principles and practices of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
    • Wastewater sampling and routine process control tests.
    • How to safely handle and mitigate accidental spills and leaks while acting in a decisive manner, using good judgment and adhere to Marzetti’s Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) policy.
    • Able to work independently in the absence of supervision and demonstrate and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
    • Must be able to maintain a satisfactory attendance record without excessive call outs and tardiness.
    • Conduct waste water training for temporary or full time operators when instructed to.
    • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety and HAACP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
    • Ability to perform weekly probe calibrations.
    • Ability to collect Storm water samples and complete pH field testing.
    • Performs other duties / responsibilities as assigned by management.

    • GED or a certified high school diploma.
    • Possession of a valid forklift license
    • Preferred CA State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board Operator’s Certification) or Two years of college or technical training in biology, environmental science, chemistry, or closely related field.
    • Experience in a Wastewater Utility preferred.

    Working Conditions/Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to disinfecting/neutralizing/caustic chemicals, combustion fumes or airborne particles. This position would also require frequently working around water mains, gas lines, and high voltage lines and occasionally work in high, precarious places and always exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and in extreme heat or cold environments. The position would also require walking on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but the employee will follow and adhere to the Marzetti’s hearing protection program. 

    This position is requires for the operator to be on call 24 hours / 7 days a week and also requires this position to potentially have an early start up, work overtime, work weekends and or work other shifts that might require overlapping in coverage which can occur without advance notice. The waste water operator’s position would require sufficient physical ability and mobility but not limited to; walking, stand for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb unusual heights on ladders; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned.

    The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 350 pounds with mechanical and or physical assistances.
