  • Overview

    The Food Safety Specialist works with the Technical Service and Food Safety Department to ensure regulatory and internal food safety standards are met in Marzetti facilities as well as co-manufacturers and vendors. The Food Safety specialist will also summarize and provide various reports on food safety related topics and complaints as needed.


    • Internal Auditing: The Food Safety Specialist performs at least 4 Corporate FSQS audits and 3 Food Safety Plan/Preventive Controls or HACCP verification audits annually. This position may also perform audits of co-manufacturers and ingredient suppliers.
    • Food Safety Culture- The Food Safety Specialist helps foster Food Safety Culture at the manufacturing facilities by providing weekly food safety informative messages as well as facilitating and documenting certain ongoing food safety key performance indicators.
    • Mock Recall Exercises- This position is responsible for coordinating and evaluating the corporate initiated, monthly facility mock recall program.
    • Trend reports-This position creates various food safety related trend reports to be used by the Corporate and Facility Food Safety Teams in order to identify opportunities for improvement as well as for verification of corrective actions.
    • FSMA Related Activities-This position will assist the Director of Food Safety with various FSMA related activities, included but not limited to: baking validations, ongoing maintenance of the corporate ingredient hazard analysis, food safety plan development, and verification activities
    • Complaint Database Documentation: This position would assists in the completion of the documentation of potential food safety complaints in the complaint database. The Food Safety Specialist works with QA Managers to ensure that investigation documentation is attached to the database. 


    • Bachelors in Microbiology, Food Science, or related field;
    • Minimum of 3 years work experience in the food industry.
    • Experienced in GMP, HACCP, and Quality Systems auditing
    • Certified Preventive Controls for Human Food or HACCP training preferred


    • Knowledge of food safety requirements (GMP, HACCP, FSMA).
    • Knowledge of food safety hazards and food manufacturing environments.
    • Strong written and verbal skills
    • Strong organization skills

    Working Conditions/Environment

    Works in a cubicle in an open office space when not auditing a facility.  The noise level is loud in the facilities is loud.  Hairnets, earplugs, goggles and gloves are required in accordance with GMP and safety standards when working inside the manufacturing plants.
