The Vice President of Business Transformation, in concert with the Director of Enterprise Solutions, will be responsible for leading and managing the Testing, Deployment, and Sustainment Transition phases of the Company’s business transformation from legacy ERP systems and processes to SAP S/4 Hana and fit to standard business processes including Back Office, Order Management, Supply Chain, and Trade Promotion Management.   T. Marzetti refers to this project as Project Ascent.   

The VP will work closely with various departments and senior leaders across the company, as well as external resources.  The VP will act as the liaison between Project Ascent Business Sponsors, Information Technology resources, Project Ascent Process Team members, our System Integrator and 3rd party consultants to deliver an ERP solution that will serve to improve T. Marzetti’s competitive advantage and deliver against the Project Ascent business case.

The Vice President of Business Transformation is accountable for the successful delivery of business in alignment with technical capabilities in the new ERP integrated solution. The VP will be responsible for ensuring that Project Ascent functions in a manner that satisfies contractual and regulatory requirements, business requirements, and company policy. The VP must demonstrate core program and project management competencies, including communication, strategic alignment, timeline and milestone management, resource estimating, budget and team management. In addition, the VP must have a proven track record of identifying and resolving project and program issues effectively and be comfortable working with a diverse group of senior leaders, operations personnel, our System Integrator, 3rd party consultants and project team members.  Reporting into the VP are Business Process Team Leads (including Demand to Supply, Quality Management, Maintain to Settle, Logistics Execution, Order to Cash, Go to Market, Procure to Pay and Finance to Manage) and their teams, the centralized Master Data Management Director and team, and the Deployment Lead.

The VP will provide daily guidance and direction to the Project Ascent teams to ensure that quality, cost, and timeline goals are met. This includes managing deployment of the solution across the organization to all Corporate, Plant (dressing and dough), and Warehouse locations including but not limited to coordination with External Stakeholder groups such as brokers, vendors, customers, 3PLs, Co-packers, and Co-manufacturers.  The Vice President of Business Transformation will report to the Transformation Program Officer (who reports to the CEO) and will interact and coordinate the activities of Project Ascent with the Director of Enterprise Solutions (who reports to the CIO).  

At the conclusion of Release 1, which includes a pilot and 5 wave deployments concluding in late 2022, the VP will be considered to manage the Business Capability Roadmap for T. Marzetti to continue to deliver benefits for the organization in alignment with T. Marzetti’s strategic priorities as a leader of the T. Marzetti’s Business Capability Center of Excellence (COE).   These benefits could include: 1) future releases and related benefits of S/4 Hana and other enterprise technology solutions, 2) business process optimization and automation, 3) assist the company expand to channels or territories beyond the US, and 4) be actively involved in the due diligence of acquisition targets and their integration.


  • Leads the coordination and execution of the Project Ascent testing and deployment efforts with a clear focus on communication, risk and budget management in a dynamic environment
  • Effectively manage relationships between project sponsors, project teams, the system integrator, 3rd party consultants, and senior leadership
  • Coordinates on a daily/weekly basis on project status with the Transformation Program Officer
  • Updates project sponsors via a monthly cadence up to the CEO and his Management Leadership Team (MLT)
  • Updates the Board of Directors as required on a periodic basis
  • Work closely with business process leads, subject matter experts, and other business users to understand project and testing/deployment requirements, making sure that there are no conflicts between program and project dependencies
  • Responsible to track all change requests and the relative impact on scope, schedule and budget within Project Ascent with a target of remaining 85+% fit to standard
  • Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, staffing, progress reporting, people management, system integrator and consultant relationships and troubleshooting
  • Monitors performance and recommends schedule changes, cost adjustments or resource additions or deletions
  • Ensures Project Ascent results meet requirements regarding quality, reliability, schedule and cost
  • Provides timely and accurate information and status updates to project teams, business
    management, project sponsors, and executive leadership, including the Board of Directors
  • Create and monitor business performance management measures for team and Project Ascent
  • Responsible for team performance management
  • Provide management/supervision of system integrator and 3rd party consultants assigned to Project Ascent
  • Ensure optimal utilization of technology solutions including system integration best practices, with proper consideration given to “cost vs. benefits”


Business Background / Experience

  • CPG and/or Food and Beverage experience (DTS, LE, PTP, QM, MTS, FTM, OTC) is desired; but minimum manufacturing experience required
  • Experience with Trade Promotion Management a plus, but not required
  • ERP Experience either as a Stakeholder or Leader (Process Stream Lead or Overall Lead)
  • Must have SAP experience and has held roles that either ran or have implemented SAP
  • Must be able to understand and talk SAP language
  • Has managed a relationship with a SI / AMS / Management Consulting Partner before
  • Strong Change Management acumen

  • Doesn’t panic when issues arise; assesses options, weights risk and impact, and feels comfortable making quick, informed decisions
  • Has the ability to go deep (requirements and process) and fly high (strategic and forward thinking)

  • Able to demonstrate experience and build relationships with senior leaders of the company

Other Factors & Considerations

  • Physical presence in central Ohio – they do not need to live local, but being on site 5 days per week is important
  • Reporting / Analytics – experiences in this area, especially leveraging SAP and Power BI, is a nice plus.
  • GRC/SOX – being publicly held, working knowledge / experience in these areas is important.

  • Experience in program planning and budgeting with demonstrated proficiency in leading and directing programs to meet schedule and financial goals
  • Self-motivated – ability to achieve without higher-level supervision with motivation coming from within, and then leading by example
  • Operates with a high level of discipline, results-oriented management process, and a strong sense of responsibility and accountability are required; experience in conflict confrontation, intervention and resolution
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and people management skills, up thru C-level and Board of Directors
  • Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgment by making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
  • Able to understand needs and values of stakeholders and team members and apply that understanding to motivate behaviors and results
