The Director of Manufacturing Technology plays a critical role in the design and deployment of new process technology that enables long term business growth (top and bottom line).  The role will primarily partner with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Capital Project Management, and Operational Excellence leaders supporting 16 manufacturing sites in North America.


  • Understand, develop, evaluate, and implement innovative process ideas and projects
    • Design, scale-up, and achieve vertical startup of new product introductions or product transfers
    • Optimize existing processes to drive cost improvement, capacity, and efficiency
    • Understand and implement long-term supply chain network and commercial strategies
    • Understand available and emerging technologies appropriate to T. Marzetti
  • Design, initiate, and complete technical feasibility studies and simulations
    • Optimize and standardize product inspection technologies for manufacturing
    • Ensure capabilities meet or exceed current and emerging food safety requirements
    • Implement predictive rather than reactive decision making using real-time inspection
    • Implement statistical process control where appropriate
  • Contribute to the Operational Excellence program by identifying and driving at least $3MM of productivity annually
    • Lead the development, deployment, and adoption of operational technology tools, such as manufacturing execution systems, historians, and dashboards, and use them to understand and improve existing processes
    • Develop and deliver change management plans that drive the adoption of data-driven decision making 
    • Identify technologies that improve manufacturing efficiency and product quality, and then leverage engineers, green belts, and black belts across the organization to implement and replicate projects
    • Achieve the financial targets used to justify investments
  • Identify process technology capability and skill gaps across the organization, and execute training, development, coaching, and mentoring to close the gaps
    • This position will initially not have direct reports, but will set the vision and strategy to grow skill sets within the organization, leading to the development of a future staff as the company continues to grow
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key technology suppliers and initiate joint development efforts
  • Effectively communicate with leadership, customers, and suppliers


  • BS degree in engineering or a technical field is required, preferably in chemical, mechanical or food engineering. MS or MBA degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of prior experience in processing and/or packaging manufacturing. Experience in emulsion processing, cooking, and baking is desired.
  • CPG, nutritional, or food manufacturing plant experience is preferred


  • Understanding of ERP systems, manufacturing control systems, data historians, business intelligence tools and system integration
  • Aptitude for engaging in manufacturing activities and processes
  • Strong analytical, financial and project management skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team development skills
  • Demonstrated success managing through and solving complex problems
  • Experience using continuous improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma training and tools
  • Experience using AutoCAD, simulation modeling, and Microsoft Office software

Working Conditions/Environment

  • Works in a normal office environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, see, hear, sit, stand, talk, type, walk and bend while moving about the facility. The noise level in the office is quiet.
  • Remote working may also occur temporarily, depending on circumstances at time of hire
  • Frequent (25-35%) travel to plant locations in the U.S., as well as vendor locations globally
