Position Summary:

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for supporting the overall Operational Excellence program and deployment at Marzetti Frozen Pasta locations in Iowa.  Additionally, the position is responsible for driving process improvement and providing project management support for engineering and cost optimization projects.  This position will support the plant along with corporate engineering and contract engineering to support a multi-phase project and track Cost Optimization projects through completion. ​


Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports the overall Operational Excellence program and deployment​
  • Guides and positively motivates Project Teams​
  • Responsible for meeting established objectives pertaining to plant goals and performance​
  • Assist and audit Pillar teams, attend regular meetings and measure progress​
  • Conduct regular audits and manage Layered Process Audit​
  • Work closely with accounting/finance department to determine plant loss and cost saving opportunities​
  • Drive best practices, challenge status quo and guide pillar/project teams​
  • Drive total employee engagement and develop associate's skills through effective coaching and mentoring​
  • Maintains close working relationship with all departments and responds to deviations from standards immediately.​
  • Responsible for & maintains positive employee, corporate and community relations along with appropriate interface with customer service.​
  • Ensures a disciplined and safe work environment.​
  • Provides assistance & information to leadership team with strategic needs and plans for plant operations​


  • BS degree in engineering or a technical field, preferably in industrial, civil or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of prior experience in processing and/or packaging manufacturing.
  • CPG, nutritional, or food processing experience is preferred
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt required
  • Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software preferred
  • Experience overseeing external contractors and/or working with engineering firms preferred

Working Conditions/Environment

Works in a manufacturing environment where the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend and occasionally lift while moving about the facility. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the plant is loud. Earplugs, safety glasses, hairnets, beard-nets (if facial hair exists) and steel toed / slip-resistant shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.  Approx. 10 - 15% travel to corporate offices in Columbus, Ohio, and other company locations for education, on-boarding assistance or other company support.
