Overview

Samples product and performs all physical and chemical tests outlined in the Quality Assurance Manual.  Responsible for maintaining requirements for proper lab operation.  Must have the skills, knowledge and ability of a Quality Assurance Analyst I, in addition to additional job elements as listed below. 

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and interpret data; create reports, graphs, and/or spreadsheets based on data interpretation.
  • Organizes special projects, which may include customer requirements, shelf life studies, etc.
  • Possesses the ability to train new employees through knowledge and experience of the job requirements.
  • Possesses the ability to troubleshoot issues and suggest solutions.
  • Monitosr and recommend disposition of returned goods.
  • Identifies and make recommendations to correct recurring problems.
  • Identifies and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Communicates with QA Analysts and QA Assistants and report any issues/problems to Q.A. Manager.
  • Follows Work Practices in Quality Assurance manual and compares test results to standards.
  • Reports processing problems or potential problems immediately to Production Manager and Q.A. Manager.
  • Reports packaging line problems or potential problems immediately to Production Manager and Q.A. Manager.
  • Collects retain samples at prescribed frequency and maintains samples in an orderly fashion.
  • Maintains lab work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Performs calibration of lab equipment when assigned.
  • Follows & generally keeps aware of the plant GMPs & reports anything which might have a negative affect on our products or company.
  • Follows all safety guidelines established by Safety and Plant Manager
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety and HACCP support programs; monitors critical control points (CCPs) for pH, water activity and metal detection; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Organizes and executes projects as assigned by the QA Manager and/or QA Supervisor
  • Engages in Operations Excellence pillar related activities
  • Demonstrates leadership in food safety and quality compliance
  • Performs other duties / responsibilities as assigned by Q.A. Manager.

Qualifications

  • Ability to be versatile (fill in when and where necessary).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
  • At least 1 year experience as a Quality Assurance Analyst I.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and computer skills required.

Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of food science and microbiology.
  • Understand key ingredient functionality, processing functions and product attributes.
  • Six Sigma Problem Solving familiarity strongly preferred
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team.

Working Conditions/Environment

The noise level in the plant is loud.  Earplugs, safety glasses, hairnet, beardnet (if facial hair exists) and steel-toed / slip-resistant shoes are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards.
