Overview

Directs and manages all fleet operations for the enterprise private fleet to ensure compliance with company and government requirements and standards. Assures quality and safety while achieving established objectives and performance   

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for fleet performance leveraging internal & external systems. Focusing on personnel management, network optimization, fleet sizing, load planning, and service metrics. 
  • Provides direction, development, evaluation, coaching and leadership with daily supervision of office personnel and drivers. Continually focusing on driver training.
  • Implements cost-effective control systems over capital assets, operating expenditures, and labor costs.
  • Establishes and monitors compliance to local, state and federal regulations such as Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. Ensures department compliance with company policies.
  • Reviews accurate recording and reporting of driver payroll and time records.
  • Controls and optimizes labor costs, maintenance/repair costs, downtime & equipment replacement costs.
  • Maintains good employee, corporate and community relations.
  • Coordinates process improvement initiatives with plants and warehouses. Ensures timely and efficient support to plant and warehouse operations.
  • Maintains company’s standards for cleanliness, productivity, and maintenance of the transportation fleet.
  • Ensures compliance to quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA and HACCP support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Reviews all vendor performances and cost for fleet department.
  • Responsible for all fleet equipment specifications and implementing new technology.
  • Directly responsible for all safety communication programs, reporting, and meetings.
  • Responsible for all department scheduling.

Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of warehouse or transportation supervisory experience, preferably in a food-related industry.
  • Working knowledge of fleet maintenance, DOT requirements, inventory control and material handling equipment and procedures.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent experience in warehouse or production management preferred.

  • Analytical ability to evaluation transportation lanes & profitability
  • Strong verbal & written communication skils

Working Conditions/Environment

Office environment.  Minimal travel.
